Clinical Interests
My primary clinical interest is food allergy - from the time point of accurate diagnosis, usually at a young age, and the multidisciplinary care of the patient to include psychosocial and dietitian support, through the natural history and hopefully resolution of the allergy. I also believe in helping the patient and the family navigate the management of food allergy from the young age, through important transitions to self-care of school-age children, and then independent living with food allergy as adolescents and adults.
Care Philosophy
When caring for any patient with any medical problem, patient care should involve not just treating the condition, but how that condition affects the patient AND the family as a whole. Treating food-allergic patients requires us to do this, as food allergy affects all aspects of life and the entire family. We are fortunate that Children's Hospital Colorado provides us with the tools to take a multidisciplinary treatment approach to our patients and families, with a team of staff that includes psychosocial support, dietary management, and the most recent food allergy research. And now Children's Hospital Colorado has paired this multidisciplinary care with a state of the art Allergy and Immunology Center, featuring one of the largest food challenge and research units in the world.
