Care Philosophy
My counseling encompasses a humanistic, grounded approach that treats the client as a whole person. I work to help the person uncover and be empowered to use one's own natural resources, strengths, and abilities to cope with whatever he/she is facing. I also understand that we as individuals are impacted by the systems we interact with, and include conversations of power and privilege, intersections of identity, systemic oppression, and culture into building a relationship with clients. I create a safe, calm and open environment that allows one to make connections, explore alternate perspectives, and promote growth and personal wellness in creative and effective ways. As a Registered Yoga Teacher, I incorporate breathing techniques, emotional regulation, meditation and mindfulness into my work with clients. I am certified as a Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga Facilitator (TCTSY-F), which is an evidence based complementary therapy for complex and developmental PTSD. Thus, I offer a somatic approach to healing, believing that reconnecting to our bodies offers more pathways to recovery by strengthening interoceptive pathways to the brain that involve decision-making, interpersonal effectiveness, trust of self and others, making choices, and taking effective action in our lives. I offer approaches such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative Therapy, and other Gestalt and relational therapies. I work creatively with the person to find one's own form of expression and what works to communicate in the session. I am most effective in working with anxiety, depression, grief, healing from past/childhood trauma, self esteem, relationships, and identity formation and exploration. I also specialize in working with mitigating burnout and occupational stress injury.
