Care Philosophy
I strive to provide safe, effective, and precise care of children with critical cardiac disease. Such high-value care can only be delivered by ensuring excellent communication between care team members and with the patients and their families. I strive to deliver family-centered care while caring for children with some of the most complex illnesses seen in pediatric medicine.
Personal Interests
I am a physician-scientist trained and board certified in Pediatrics, Pediatric Cardiology, and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. I am a cardiologist and intensivist in the pediatric cardiac intensive care unit at Children’s Hospital Colorado's Heart Institute and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. My area of research interest is in thrombosis, anti-coagulation, and hemolytic issues faced by children requiring surgery or extra-corporeal support for congenital and acquired heart disease. I am the primary investigator on two active protocols addressing these questions at the University of Colorado. This research interest blends into an area of specific clinical focus in the blood-related issues faced by children with critical illness. I have developed and established an inpatient consult service (Cardiac Antithrombosis Management Program, CAMP) to address the complex management of thrombotic disease in patients with acquired and congenital heart disease. In addition, I am Co-Director of the Cardiac Thrombosis Clinic, a collaboration with the Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center to provide multi-disciplinary and highly specialized outpatient care for patients with thrombosis associated with heart disease.
