Research Interests

My scientific interests focus on developing engineered cell culture platforms that precisely and consistently mimic the dynamic and complex architecture, composition, and mechanical properties of lung tissue in vitro. These bioengineered lung models enable us to study lung disease and regeneration using patient-derived cells bridging the gap between basic research results obtained using traditional cell culture techniques and rodent animal models and the outcomes of clinical studies. Our results will provide a foundation for development of precision medical treatments.

I enjoy a good project whether that's fixing up my 19th century house, throwing pottery or blazing a new trail on my bicycle.

Recently, I've been volunteering to design and sew cloth face coverings for healthcare and essential workers.

I've shared the results of our research with a variety of audiences in the community, including the Rocky Mountain Gator Club, an alumni group representing my alma mater, the University of Florida. Go Gators!
