Research Interests

Concussion - I currently serve on Boulder Valley School District Brain Injury Resource Team, where we have created and implemented a concussion policy for all Boulder Valley School District children, from elementary school up to high school. Our future research will be centered around implementation and creation of school policy to assist concussed children sooner and more efficiently within schools. In addition to epidemiological data, we are creating a forum where we can provide earlier active interventions for concussed students to avoid long term sequelae from concussion.

Care Philosophy
I believe in the ability to positively impact every person's life, one patient at a time. Whether it is getting the high school athlete healthy so she can be on her school's varsity team or the weekend warrior strong to complete his first marathon, I believe it is my job as a sports medicine physician to partner with my patients to help them accomplish their individual goals. I truly do strive to care for the whole person, mind, body and spirit in my sports medicine practice. Incorporating my osteopathic roots, I look at each patient as a system which needs to be healthy in its entirety. I thoroughly enjoy getting to know each of my patients individually in order to provide the best possible treatment plan for each person. As a previous competitive figure skater, I understand many different aspects of sports medicine and am, frequently, able to relate to my patients from when I was the patient on the exam table.

Personal Interests
In my spare time, I enjoy hiking with my husband and two daughters as well as wildlife and landscape photography, Rocky Mountain wildflowers, music, dance, and any chance to get outside and be in nature and with animals. We love watching our two young daughters grow and enjoy all the wonderfully, unique adventures Colorado and the West have to offer. In addition, we love our community and neighborhood. I love to read and as a child of a World War II Marine veteran, I have a special passion for WWII literature.

Volunteer Activities
I am committed and passionate about education, development of youth self esteem and youth physical and mental health. Any chance I can get I am happy to be found at community fairs and outreach events. In addition, I am passionate about women's health in all stages of life, from childhood issues to geriatric issues. I am an advocate for education being the key to success so love to also serve at community fairs to highlight women's health issues. Finally, I do free lectures to local dance and other performing arts studios/facilities, in order to raise more awareness of the treatment of the Athlete in the Arts.

Public Speaking
Yes
I am happy to talk about any aspect of Sports Medicine. In addition I have a special interest in Concussion as I am on the Boulder Valley School District Brain Injury Resource Team where we focus on the development and implementation of a county-wide Concussion Policy, Return to Learn and Return to Sports. In addition, I lecture on Performing Arts Medicine/Dance Medicine. Finally in other special topics, I lecture on Issues in Women in Sports Medicine, the Female Athlete Triad, Figure Skating, and Osteopathic Medicine.
