Research Interests
My research interests are primarily focused on investigating mechanisms of lung and lung blood vessel growth and injury in prematurely born infants. My research projects in this area explore prenatal and postnatal risk factors for impaired lung blood vessel growth and development of chronic lung disease, including pulmonary hypertension, in these infants. I am also investigating predictors of chronic lung disease and more sensitive measures to detect and measure disease severity. Additionally, I conduct NIH funded research projects utilizing molecular microbiome, transcriptomic, and proteomic analysis to investigate the contribution of different bacteria to ventilator associated pneumonia to facilitate improved prevention and treatment methods.
